Custom Web Software Development
We develop your website using web standards, technical experience and testing to avoid the incompatibilities between web browsers that would cause your website to look different or malfunction on different machines.
If you know your visitors are office based with the latest software then this will be less work than if you need to support older browsers. We can check pages on a variety of popular current browsers and older browsers available on Windows and Mac computers over the last 8 years (From Windows 98/Mac Os 9 and up). Browsers older than 8 years are not tested because there are so few in use.
When a visitor to your site clicks a broken link or mistypes the address then you do NOT want them to see the typical 'not found' page, or they will assume your website has gone and not look any further. They should see a page that is branded like the rest of your website and includes the menus that enable them to find the page they are looking for. These custom error pages are standard on all our sites and can be edited with the CMS.
You can have as many domain names as you like 'pointing' at your website. For example, if you change your business name then you can simply redirect the old domain name to the new website. If you trade under other names or your business name has a common misspelling, you can register those names and redirect them to your website.
All websites include on-line web visitor statistics that provide graphs like the one below. Use the graphs to find out which are the popular pages and which need more work. Also find out what keywords visitors searched for before they found your website so you emphasise those words to improve your Search Engine results.
Contact forms enable website visitors to send you a message by typing it into a page on your website. As well as the usual email address and message fields, we can customise the questions asked to your requirements.
This technique encodes email addresses on your web pages so they are visible to website visitors but not the 'spambots' that automatically collect email addresses for targeting with spam.
To avoid spam emails, many businesses are completely removing all email addresses from their websites and using contact forms instead. If you want keep email addresses on your website but want to minimise spam then email address protection will help.
The CMS supports a wide range of menu types. They can display images or text. They can be popup or drop-down, single or multi-level, horizontal or vertical. This ensures that you and the graphic designer can choose the right kind of menu for your website.
Add a vertical or horizontal scrolling 'ticker tape' style window to your website.
The contents of the scrolling area can be edited by the CMS just like any other content.
Website visitors can send an email to someone that might be interested in a page by entering their email address into a small box on the page. This harnesses the 'viral marketing' effect to spread interest in your site.
Prompt visitors to add your website to their favourites or bookmarks and make it even easier to do so by providing a one-click 'Add to Favourites' button.
A link opens up a version of the page that is more suitable for printing by ensuring that the width fits on standard A4 printer paper. This can be achieved by rearranging the page or removing menus and other details that are not required on the printed version.
To enable the Printable Page feature, the CMS simply loads the page contents in another template, so there is no extra work for you.
Enable website visitors to signup online and register a user name and password. This comes with all the features that you need to create and manage an on-line community:
Selected pages may be password protected by a user login. You can setup the login accounts manually to control who has access or provide an online user signup page.
This enables you to create an extranet or members area
Maintain a list of email newsletter subscribers. To join the list, subscribers type their name and email address into a small form. To unsubscribe, they click an 'unsubscribe' link at the end of the email. The unsubscribe page can be edited using the CMS.
Present your products with photos and details in an online catalog. This can use categories within categories to create a structured hierarchy.
When providing directions to your customers & partners, why give them a static map when you can show an interactive map that allows them to zoom, pan and find their way more easily.
Interactive maps are also ideal for websites that contain location based information such as properties for sale or let, holidays or events. We can set up your website so that you only need to provide the location’s co-ordinates, making them easier to use than static maps.
Encourage people to add your contact details to their address book and ensure that they aren’t mistyped by providing a VCard.
Website visitors simply click the VCard link and the details are automatically downloaded and imported directly into their default contact manager or address book (e.g. Microsoft Outlook) without retyping. All they have to do then is click the ‘Save’ button.
The VCard format originated on Mac computers but is now is understood by all the main contact managers.
